Freshman arrested in Danieley drug bust
Orion Ezra Sires, a member of the class of 2017, was arrested Friday morning at his Danieley I apartment.
Sires has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.
The list of charges include:
- Felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver
- Felony manufacturing of marijuana
- Felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or other place for controlled substances
- Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
- Misdemeanor possession of marijuana up to .5 ounces
According to Sires’ suitemate, Nicholas Ross, officers that came into the apartment entered and searched Sires’ room, removing ceiling tiles and taking the sheets off Sires’ bed.
Elizabeth Bohjalian, a resident on the first floor of Danieley I, said she witnessed drug-sniffing canines going up the stairs and Elon Campus Safety and Town of Elon Police officers taking pictures of several bottles of alcohol.
Bohjalian said there was police activity outside Danieley I for more than an hour and a half.
According to Elon Town Police Chief Cliff Parker, there were 15 grams of marijuana in a baggie stored in a mason jar. The marijuana was found in the ceiling, along with several empty mason jars. $2,400.00 in $20 increments were folded and held together with a rubber band, also stored in the ceiling.
During his court appearance on Monday, Sires told the judge that he will provide his own lawyer.
Sires is next scheduled to appear in Alamance County Criminal Court on Feb. 26.
