Elon shooting struggles continue in loss to Towson
With 1.7 seconds left on the clock and the Elon University Men’s Basketball Team trailing 53-51, Elijah Bryant hoisted a three-pointer from 27 feet away, but like the Phoenix’s other attempts- it didn’t fall- and Towson left Alumni Gym with the win.
The shooting struggles continued for the Phoenix, as the team shot just 28 percent from the field, including just 20 percent in the first half.
But despite the poor game offensively, Elon was in it the whole time, and even had a chance to take the lead with 31 seconds to go. Coming out of a timeout, Elijah Bryant got the ball and drove to the hoop where his layup attempt rolled off of the rim and set up the game-winner for Towson’s Mike Morsell at the other end of the floor.
Offensive rebounding was the story of the night for Towson, as the Tigers snatched 23 and turned them into 19 second-chance points.
Poor free throw shooting from Towson helped Elon hang around. The Tigers were just 10-of-25 (40 percent) from the charity stripe.
John Davis scored a game-high 16 points and Timajh Parker-Rivera added 14 for the Tigers. Austin Hamilton and Bryant led the Phoenix with 11 points apiece.
With the win Towson improves to 9-11 (2-5 CAA) on the year. The loss drops Elon to 10-10 (2-5) and extends its losing streak to a season-high four games.
The Phoenix looks to rebound on Saturday when it hosts Delaware at 7 p.m.
